Since March 27th, the "Taiwan International Machine Tool Show" (TMTS 2024) has begun its 5 days exhibition. Though this is the first-time for TMTS being hosted at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, the show also brought along a new direction of Taiwan machine tool next-face development, with the main show theme on " Dual Axis Intelligent Manufacturing and Sustainable Future," which focuses on two main exhibition axes: "Digital Transformation, DX" and "Green Transformation, GX".
There are five major trends among exhibitors this year, including:
Providing differentiated and comprehensive solutions in response to individual market demands.
Incorporating more energy-saving technologies into product designs, whether for entire machines or components, building upon existing intelligent foundations.
Integrating intelligent energy management and implementing more efficient green processes.
Implementing the dual-axis transformation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), ranging from product design to a series of complete plans including recycled packaging materials and carbon reduction transportation.
Under the long-term efforts of the association to promote industry standards, manufacturers are highly devoted in international energy-saving standards and actively invest in product or qualification certifications, such as ISO14955, ISO14064-1/-2, and ISO14067.
Starting from the concept of industrial ecology, efforts are made to create the TMTS as a digitalized and green exhibition, not only providing global buyers with a new exhibition experience but also hoping to bring more business opportunities to the Taiwanese machine tool and component industry.
Exhibition Highlights on DX & GX
YCM (Yeong Chin Machinery) presented five main themes. First, exploring optimal carbon management strategies from factory management to reduce the environmental impact of machine tools. Second, simple implementation of five-axis and automation solutions to reduce machine usage and carbon emissions. Third, solutions to tackle on the blind spots in production processes across various industries to keep pace with rapid industry developments. Fourth, utilizing virtual and real integration to reduce development costs and shorten time to market, thereby increasing profits. Fifth, building a lean smart manufacturing ecosystem to facilitate easy digital transformation for enterprises.
YJF (Yuan Jun Fong Casting) introduced their new environmentally friendly casting resin adhesive materials, increased the utilization rate of oxygen-based rotary furnaces, optimized scheduling, and adopted green casting technologies such as the use of l vanishing mold casting (lost mold). Subsequent mold recycling eliminates waste disposal issues, and collaboration with ten supply chain vendors for carbon footprint assessment and participation in low-carbon transformation initiatives are also highlighted.
Victor Taichung aimed to create 3 green transformations by utilizing green buildings and energy clouds to construct digital offices, obtaining energy-saving label certifications through designing their machine tool to achieve energy savings of 18-42%, applying AI technology on their machines for intelligent monitoring systems, establishing ISO14067 carbon footprints, and guiding the small and medium businesses in building green supply chains.
Habor Precision presented energy-saving solutions with water-to-water/oil heat exchangers, low-energy-consuming products, and reduced air conditioning power consumption. Their water chillers emit no hot air and employ DC inverter motors, requiring low refrigerant usage, and even offering smart monitoring, which results in energy-savings of up to 60%.
Hiwin has implemented ISO 50001:2018 management systems, renewable energy, product carbon footprints and greenhouse gas assessments. Effective strategies are proposed for building circular economy by sourcing upwards to substitute materials. Risks associated with increased investment costs are also monitored and reviewed through regular meetings, driving new initiatives to their supply chain management among suppliers and subsidiaries. As the result, their rotary table can reduce 55% carbon emissions, increased tenfold on processing efficiency, and recycle up to 90% materials.
Kenturn specializes in high-precision spindles. As the assembly process request many parts to conduct anti-rust process, they developed the DP50 oil immersion machine to simplify processes, enhance efficiency, reduce secondary rust removal operations and oil dripping issues. Also, this automated process offers multiple-use capabilities for environmentally-friendly and high-efficiency usage.
Taiwan Takisawa provides a one-stop automation solution with energy-saving peripheral devices, power consumption monitoring, remote monitoring systems, digital twin systems, and user-friendly software to achieve a true green intelligent machinery.
Posa transformed their traditional grinder oil tank motors into inverter motors and adjusted spindle motors to IE3 and IE4 for environmental protection and energy savings of around 15%. Their single-machine smart automation system allows automated inspection for program-controlled processing without the need for manual adjustments and enabling real-time compensation.
At TMTS 2024, it not only showcases the technological innovation and product development advantages of the Taiwanese machine tool industry but also highlights the cross-domain integrated development achievements of the Taiwanese machine tool industry, which could ultimately contribute more developments to the global machine tool industry.
